The U.S. Department of State has approved a possible USD108.1 million sale of equipment and support services for the Hawk air defense missile system to Ukraine under the Foreign Military Sales program.
According to the announcement, the decision followed a request submitted by the Ukrainian government and is intended to strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities amid ongoing security threats.
The State Department said the proposed package is aligned with broader American foreign policy and security goals in Europe.
?This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe,? the statement said.
Washington also stressed that the package is designed to improve Ukraine's ability to respond to both current and future threats.
?The sale will improve Ukraine's capability to meet current and future threats,? the U.S. Department of State added.
The Hawk system, originally developed as a surface-to-air missile platform for intercepting aircraft and other aerial threats, has become part of the broader international military assistance provided to Ukraine as Kyiv continues to strengthen its air defense network.
