Toronto FC has halted preparations for the start of the 2021 MLS season after multiple members of the club tested positive for COVID-19 during training camp.

The club declined to specify if a player had tested positive, with all club personnel moved into self-quarantine for an unspecified amount of time. Contact tracing and additional COVID-19 testing is underway.

The start of the season is just over five weeks away, although the league has yet to release an official schedule. Toronto FC was planning to play early-season home games in both Orlando and Tampa because of travel restrictions between Canada and the United States.

"We feel good about the strength of the medical protocols," general manager Ali Curtis said. "... We're trying to be smart about this and trying to use all our resources to ensure that everyone returns to health and returns to play in a really, really safe way."

The club had been conducting training camp in Toronto.
